el 15 de octubre

my juice, it’s your bday today & i rejoice to celebrate you. te quiero porque…
1) me quieres
2) you are a worshipper. when i was in 6th grade, i knew i wanted to marry a boy who knew how to worship.
3) you make me laugh a lot.
4) you are highly allergic to cats, yet you stick your face in our cats’ faces daily.
5) in the middle of the night when i get up for the umpteenth time you gently say, “be careful.”
6) you’ve accepted el español as a part of nuestras vidas
7) i know you will be a wonderful papá as you have always cherished the moments with kiddos in our lives.
8. you admit your weaknesses to me as you have a sensitive heart
9) you don’t mind if i just need to cry for a minute & maybe remember my old pets, booster & rocket
10) you do the floors
11) you don’t do the silverware except recently!
12) you will be the best coach to me as we see our baby enter this world.
13) you are learning to be handy in this your 32nd year.
14) you put a high value on our relationships with others.
15) you are my juice, jesse, jookers, bougers, badge, rabbit…
here’s a new take on the archer original, “i love you the most best biggest & i beat you,” that we’ll teach our niños, ”te quiero lo más, lo máximo y te gané.”
happy birthday, amor.

preparándonos

pregnancy is a funny time in life. it’s the only time that you’re glad to have a big belly. sometimes i totally forget that i am pregnant & jason brings me back to reality as he laughs (at me) while i dance to the music on house hunters international.
jason has been more than loving during this journey, he has been my great helper & encourager. we’re so “all in this together.”
so now that i’ve had such a smooth pregnancy (¡gloria a Dios!), it looks as if i may have this fun pregnancy skin condition. it’s just like me to get something like this; my skin has always been funny & i attribute that to the fact that the Lord really wants me to be a bilingual female Native American dermatologist. (i’m only half-way kidding).
basically, i thought i had poison ivy, but now i have “itch like mad” bumps everywhere. it’s glorious. but you know what? i think all we go through is for a purpose & there is something to be said for barely sleeping a wink right now. Dios está preparándonos for a baby who will probably not sleep too much at night. His purposes are good, but funny.
if you suffer from PUPPPs during pregnancy, here’s what i’ve done so far (since my self diagnosis this morning). drank dandelion root tea (spiked with some peppermint tea to enhance the taste), taken a cool bath & lathered up with Grandpa’s pine tar soap (smells like it sounds) & discovered the cooling relief of Sarna lotion. aww. only feeling a bit of relief, but doing something about the itch feels better than nothing at all. oh & don’t worry, i’ll talk with the doc on monday.
i’ve refrained from blogging about the funnies of pregnancy too much, but i just had to share this new fun since we’re so close to the end. the cure for PUPPPs? deliver the baby. ¿estoy lista? sí, estoy lista.

loving baby Miller
a couple of saturdays ago, we were blessed by our amigas with a super fun shower for baby miller! many thanks to my lovely friends who hosted…

and thanks to all who blessed us that day! from cloth diapers to neutral onsies, can you believe that i don’t have to take anything back!
to welcome baby miller, i involved all mis amigas in a fun art project. see, i’m a big word person, so we painted over 100 letter tiles for a magnetic message board. it will be perfect for the nursery.
here are some brave painters…

and some creative letter tiles…after drying, put magnetic strip on back…

and this past saturday, we completed the project with a piece of sheet metal from lowes & handy 50% off framing from hobby lobby. so far, we’ve changed the message for baby miller every day. me gusta mucho.

stoltz chicken salad
carrie arroyo stoltz made us this delicious cool summer meal. it’s her mom’s recipe. she served it over crisp fresh greens; jason desired bread today, so we picked up at loaf at our local bread shop. this may be a start of a summer series. if you have any favorite summer time meals that require minimal heat & are healthy, send them my way & you may just see your name on the title of the next post.
stoltz chicken salad (6-8 servings)
1/2 can of crushed pineapple (drained)
2 cans of cooked chicken (drained)
1/2 bag of almond slivers, toasted (watch ‘em close or they will burn!)
1 cup grapes, halved
1 cup mayonnaise
salt & pepper to taste (you will need ‘em)
I am totally guessing at those measurements because I didn’t measure anything! In a large mixing bowl, break up chicken with a fork. Add a bit of pineapple & grapes; mix gently with fork. Add more pineapple or grapes as you see fit. Then add as much mayonnaise as you desire. Finally mix in toasted almond slivers. Taste. Add salt & pepper. Serve on a sandwich or over salad greens.
Next time: Millers will add green onions and/or parsley.
Gracias, Carrie, por esta receta. Te quiero mucho, mi amiga.

el verano empezó

today is my first day of summer. ahh. the joys of living on the school calendar. it’s fantasmaglorious & what’s even better is the fact that i love what i do.
in store for this summer, more baby prep. we’ve already been attending a 2-hour bradley class every Tuesday night. here’s a pic from our May 19th class–our 8th aniversario.
we’re headed to visit our friends, carrie & fernando arroyo in waco (hueco=hole en español) and then off to dallas for some wendy miller time & to see our b-ann.
what else for this summer? there’s a remodel on the horizon for the yellow house & a new miller website in the works. stay tuned for more adventures.

le week off
last sunday i started an experiment of sorts: to not log on to facebook or open my rss reader for a week.
the stats:
13 facebook requests, only 2 being legit wall posts & 3 friend requests
77 unread blogs, 9 minutes to read/scan them all, 1 blog that always pulls my heart strings, 1 blog that mentioned my name, 1 blog that makes me want to cook
the lessons:
it was hard! like coming off of caffeine or giving up chocolate…could we say i was a little addicted?
i’d like to try to only log-on to facebook every few days.
i’m not going to keep my rss reader open all the time, but just every few days.
why?
life happens when you close the computer.
jaime out!

surprise & tomato soup
i’ve been out of the blog-o-sphere. oh, i keep reading yours if you have one…i just can’t think of anything blog-worthy for mine. so, just to let you know that we are not finding out if we are having a boy or a girl. i like being able to choose a fun surprise in life, so that’s why we’re not finding out. plus, i think it will make the last month of pregnancy not to mention the labor & delivery a tiny bit more bearable. we’ll see anyways.
lately, our family has been loved on in big ways from the body of believers. since my grandma passed away, our community truly is keeping our entire family surrounded by their love & support. it actually started post-ice storm, but anyhow, here’s a groovy recipe that i highly recommend. my friend carrie (who just had her second baby girl, mae) treated us to this right when grandma passed away. enjoy! i used fat free half-n-half when i made it this week…still amazing!!

nueva creación
it’s sunday, february 15th & i’d like to just press “publish” to get the news out there. we planned an easy valentine’s day yesterday. get up, take a pregnancy test or as we really say it “pee on another stick”. well, we got up at 5:30 am due to the big plan & it was positive. ¿estoy embarazada? sí, estoy.
our early morning adventure kept us awake (of course!), so we headed to cracker barrel for a valentine’s day breakfast date. there were no crowds at 7 am on a saturday! what was difficult was later that day, we found ourselves surrounded by my family & the kelleys. they all came over to see the multiple bonfires in our yard. we determined to not tell family, our community group or close coworkers until we visited the doctor. from there, we decided that we’d still wait until 12 weeks to post this blog.
see, the last time, november of 2007 we didn’t tell anyone for 12 weeks. anyone! so the day that we found out that we’d had a miscarriage when we thought we were 12 weeks along was doubly difficult; it went something like this, “Jaime was pregnant (yeah!), but had a miscarriage. (boo!)” so this time, we decided to at least tell those we are in constant communication with before we heard the baby’s heartbeat, as we’ve learned that there is great strength in praying for one another.
ok—so i wrote this pretty much 2 months ago. sorry for just now publishing it! it seems like facebook has changed the way that news is spread. jason & i are so grateful for your shared excitement as we journey along with a baby in tow. due date: october 20—5 days after jason’s bday.

surprise landing
friday, i got home from school & the fam was over at mom’s nearly complete house. while jason & mom were inside her house, matt & i were playing with abe & luke down by the holler. matt looks up & says, “boys, look at the helicopter coming straight over tía’s house”. i instruct everyone to wave. the helicopter circles our house a couple of times & then matt & i realize that it’s coming down! it lands perfectly between our persimmon trees, the washhouse & our neighbor’s fence. as the propellers slow down, i call jason & say “um, there’s a helicopter in our yard.” he & mom hadn’t even heard it! click here to see pics
dean, mom’s builder steps out of the chopper & tells us that he didn’t want to fight springdale 5 o’clock traffic, so he asked his brother in law for a ride. crazy.
mom got to take a ride. this is something that my dad would have loved for sure. and this is a test of our iPhone to flickr capacity. it worked, so check our flickr pics for random views of españa over the next 10 days…

the dentist chair
it’s the most awkward place i know. today i had my teeth cleaned. and i wondered what dentist & hygienists dream about. do they envision cavities in their dreams? do they have nightmares about slipping their sharp instruments? i just wonder. that’s what i was daydreaming about to keep my mind off the annoying work that they must do every day.
it takes all of us i know. so i am grateful for the annoying dentist chair, but more grateful that my days are filled with helping students & teachers. two of my co-teachers told me that i was in their dreams last night. one said that we lived on a commune together, drove a funky bus & had a large veggie garden. another said that we were traveling in some distant land together, had the wrong departure time for our flight & had to wait in tiny cubicles at the airport. maybe sometimes we all just dream fun wacky things to keep us sane from the monotony of our days–whether our monotony be that every day is different (me) or scraping teeth & watching people squirm in the dentist chair.
